3 Easy Ways to Make Pre-Rolled Cones
Pre-rolled cones are great until you reach for one and realize the box is empty. Even worse, the new pack isn’t showing up for another few days.
Luckily, you’re not totally out of options. With a rolling paper, a tip, and a little patience, you can make a cone yourself. It probably won’t look perfect the first time, but it’ll do the job.
Always follow your local laws and use only with legal smoking herbs.
And if DIY is not the mood today, you can always shop pre-rolled cones here.
1. Freehand It
This is the no-tools method.
We tried it, and honestly, it wasn’t the prettiest cone we’ve ever seen. But it worked, and that’s good enough.
A pre-rolled cone tip helps a lot because it already gives you the basic shape and show you the angle you’re going for. You can also take a regular tip and shape it into more of a cone yourself.
Put the tip at one end of the rolling paper, then wrap the paper around it at a slight angle. Keep the bottom snug around the tip and let the top open up wider. Once it looks close enough, moisten the gum line and seal it.
It might take a couple tries, but you’ll start to feel the angle pretty quickly.
Best for: When you have papers, tips, and nothing else.
2. Use a Tool
This method is a little easier because you’re giving the paper something to wrap around.
A tapered chopstick works really well because it already has the shape you want. Put the narrow end near the tip side of the paper and let the wider end help shape the open top.
If you don’t have a tapered chopstick, a thin pencil, pen, or straw can still work. It won’t make the cone shape for you, but it helps hold the paper steady while you wrap it at an angle.
Start with your tip if you can. Place the tool beside it, wrap the rolling paper around both, and keep the tip end tighter than the open end. Moisten the gum line, seal it, then gently slide the tool out.
Best for: When you want a cleaner shape without overthinking it.
3. Use a Cone Rolling Machine
This one might be cheating a little, but it still belongs here.
If you’re trying to make empty cones to fill later, a cone rolling machine probably isn’t the perfect method. But if you just want to roll something cone-shaped quickly, it’s useful.
A cone roller, like the RAW Cone Roller, has one end that’s narrower and one end that’s wider, so it helps make that cone shape without much effort.
You won’t really end up with an empty cone to save for later, but on the days when you just want to get it done, this is the easy route.
Best for: When you want the cone shape but don’t feel like doing the whole DIY thing.
Final Thoughts
Running out of pre-rolled cones is annoying, but it’s fixable. Freehanding works in a pinch, using a tool makes things easier, and a cone roller is there for the days when you just want the shortcut.
The main thing is to keep the tip end tight and let the top stay wider. Once you get that part down, homemade cones get a lot easier.
Or, you know, save yourself the trouble next time and stock up on pre-rolled cones.
