Puffco Vaporizers Explained: Peak, Peak Pro, Proxy & Pivot
Understanding Puffco's vaporizer lineup is pretty easy. You can break it down into three categories: electronic dab rigs, modular vaporizers, and pen-style vaporizers.
The Peak and Peak Pro are electronic dab rigs with glass water attachments. The Proxy is a modular vaporizer with interchangeable accessories, while the Pivot is a compact, pen-style vaporizer.
There are also older and newer versions of some Puffco models. This is worth knowing if you already own one, especially when shopping for replacement chambers and atomizers.
You can find the different models, colors, and accessories in our Puffco collection.
1. Electronic Dab Rigs: Puffco Peak & Peak Pro
The Puffco Peak and Puffco Peak Pro are Puffco's electronic dab rigs. Both have rechargeable bases, glass water attachments, and ceramic chambers for heating concentrates. They work much like traditional dab rigs, except you don't need a torch.
They're part of the broader category of wax vaporizers, which use electronic heating for concentrates such as wax and rosin.
Puffco Peak
The Puffco Peak is the simpler of the two. It has four preset heat settings, real-time temperature control, and a 3D Chamber that heats concentrates along the ceramic walls rather than just from the bottom.
Everything is controlled with a single button. There's no app to connect or temperature profiles to set up. Just choose your heat setting and you're ready to go.
Puffco Peak Pro
The Puffco Peak Pro has the same general design, with a few extra features. It connects to the Puffco Connect app, where you can fine-tune temperatures, adjust session times, customize vapor settings, and change the lighting.
The current Peak Pro comes with the larger 3DXL Chamber. It has a deeper ceramic bowl than the standard 3D Chamber, giving you more room for concentrates. The Peak Pro also supports wireless charging.
If you're happy with four preset heat settings, the regular Peak covers the essentials. The Peak Pro is for someone who wants more control over their sessions.
2. Modular Vaporizers: Puffco Proxy
The Puffco Proxy is a little different. Instead of having a permanent glass attachment, it has a removable electronic base that you can transfer between compatible accessories.
The Proxy Pipe Kit comes with a traditional pipe-shaped glass piece. You can remove the Proxy Base and put it into another compatible accessory, such as a bubbler with water filtration.
There's also the Puffco Proxy Core Kit. It uses the same newer Proxy Base but comes with a compact cup and mouthpiece instead of the glass pipe. You're getting the same vaporizer in a different setup.
The current Proxy has four preset heat settings, a 3D Chamber, and Bluetooth connectivity for customizing settings through the Puffco Connect app.
One of the nice things about the Proxy is that you don't have to commit to one glass style. You can start with the pipe and add other compatible pieces later.
3. Pen-Style Vaporizers: Puffco Pivot
The Puffco Pivot is the smallest vaporizer in the lineup. It has a slim, pen-style body with a removable 3D Chamber and mouthpiece.
Like the other Puffco vaporizers, the Pivot uses electronic heating for concentrates. It has four preset heat settings and real-time temperature control, all operated through a single button.
There's no separate glass piece to carry around, and the standard Pivot doesn't use water filtration. Puffco does offer a glass adapter if you want to connect it to a compatible water pipe.
The Pivot is a good option if portability is your priority and you prefer something smaller than a Peak or Proxy.
Original vs. New Puffco Models: What's Different?
If you've owned a Puffco for a while, you might have an earlier version. Puffco has updated several of its vaporizers over the years, including their heating chambers.
Here's what to know about the different generations.
Original Peak vs. New Peak
The original Puffco Peak, often called the OG Peak, uses a Puffco Peak Atomizer with a bottom-heating design.
The newer Puffco Peak uses a Peak 3D Chamber, which heats along the ceramic walls. The two heating components are not interchangeable, so make sure you're buying the correct replacement for your Peak.
Older Peak Pro vs. Current Peak Pro
Some earlier Peak Pro models shipped with the original Peak Pro chamber, while later versions came with the Peak Pro 3D Chamber.
The current Peak Pro comes with the larger Puffco Peak Pro 3DXL Chamber.
Both the 3D and 3DXL Chambers work with Peak Pro devices. You can upgrade an older Peak Pro to the 3DXL without buying a new rig, although you may need to update the firmware.
Peak Pro chambers are different from the chambers used in the regular Peak.
Original Proxy vs. New Proxy
The original Puffco Proxy already used a 3D Chamber, but the newer Proxy has an updated version with a taller ceramic bowl.
The new model also adds Bluetooth connectivity and the Puffco Connect app, which weren't available on the original Proxy.
Both generations can use many of the same compatible Proxy glass pieces, including pipe and bubbler accessories. However, their heating chambers are different.
The original Proxy requires the Original Proxy 3D Chamber, while the newer, Bluetooth-enabled Proxy uses the New Puffco Proxy 3D Chamber.
The Proxy Core is another distinction worth remembering. The Core accessory is designed for the newer Proxy Base, not the original one.
Puffco Pivot
The Pivot uses its own smaller Pivot 3D Chamber, which is available in a replacement two-pack.
It doesn't share chambers with the Peak, Peak Pro, or Proxy.
Puffco Chamber & Atomizer Compatibility Chart
If you're looking for a replacement, here's a quick reference for which chamber or atomizer fits each Puffco vaporizer.
| Puffco Vaporizer | Compatible Chamber or Atomizer |
|---|---|
| Original Peak (OG Peak) | Puffco Peak Atomizer |
| New Peak | Puffco Peak 3D Chamber |
| Peak Pro (older and current) | Puffco Peak Pro 3D Chamber or 3DXL Chamber |
| Original Proxy (OG Proxy) | Original Puffco Proxy 3D Chamber |
| New Proxy / Proxy Core | New Puffco Proxy 3D Chamber |
| Pivot | Puffco Pivot 3D Chamber |
Although several Puffco vaporizers use 3D heating technology, that doesn't mean their chambers are interchangeable. Always check which model and generation you own before ordering a replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions About Puffco
What is the difference between the Puffco Peak and Peak Pro?
Both are electronic dab rigs with water filtration and preset heat settings. The Peak Pro adds app connectivity, more temperature customization, wireless charging, and a larger 3DXL Chamber. The regular Peak keeps things simple with built-in controls.
Can I use a 3DXL Chamber on a regular Puffco Peak?
No. The 3DXL Chamber is designed for the Peak Pro. The newer regular Peak uses its own Peak 3D Chamber, while the original Peak uses a traditional atomizer.
How do I know if I have the original or new Puffco Proxy?
The easiest way to tell is by Bluetooth connectivity. The newer Proxy connects to the Puffco Connect app, while the original Proxy doesn't. They also use different replacement 3D Chambers.
Can you use dry herb in a Puffco vaporizer?
No. The Peak, Peak Pro, Proxy, and Pivot are designed for concentrates such as wax and rosin, not dry herb or flower.
Which Puffco Vaporizer Is Right for You?
It mostly comes down to how you prefer to use your vaporizer.
The Puffco Peak is a straightforward electronic dab rig with water filtration and preset heat settings. The Peak Pro has a larger chamber and more customization through the app.
The Puffco Proxy is for anyone who likes the idea of switching between different pipes, bubblers, and accessories without replacing the electronic base.
And if you're looking for something small and portable, the Puffco Pivot puts Puffco's 3D heating technology into a pen-style device.
All four are designed for concentrates. The main differences are their size, design, controls, and accessories. Once you've decided which style you prefer, choosing between the models is pretty straightforward.
