What Is a Start Sheet in a Rolling Paper Pack?

If you use rolling papers, you’ve probably noticed that first sheet in some packs labeled “start sheet.” Some people call it a warning sheet, but either way, it’s the odd one at the front that looks just enough like a real paper to make people pause for a second.

From the name alone, it seems pretty clear that the start sheet is more of an opener than an actual rolling paper. It marks the beginning of the pack, helps it feel fresh and complete, and separates the real papers from the cover. It’s a small detail, but it gives the booklet a more finished feel.

Not every rolling paper company uses one, which is part of what makes it stand out. Some brands keep it simple. Others add that extra first sheet, almost like a quiet signal that the pack is new and untouched.

That’s really the point of it. The start sheet looks like part of the pack because it is part of the pack, just not really part of the main event. It’s the introduction. The actual papers start after that.

So while some people still call it a warning sheet, start sheet feels like the more accurate name. It’s there to begin the pack, not to be the star of it.
